OANCEA community has been documented since 1521. OANCEA is located in the eastern part of Romania, on the right bank of the Prut River, 57 km north of Galati, the county seat and 7 km west of Cahul in Moldova.
Oancea commune borders on the east with the Prut River, the current border between Romania and the Republic of Moldova on a length of 7.5 km.
The road bridge over the Prut River connects the Republic of Moldova.
Oancea commune covers an area of 5,160 ha, of which: urban 269 ha. In total, the surface of 4,241 ha represents agricultural use, the difference is made up of water and ponds, roads, constructions.
