TOPOLOVENI or the very first Romanian manufacturer to receive protected geographical indication status

TOPOLOVENI or the very first Romanian manufacturer to receive protected geographical indication status

The word ‘magiun’ became known in the European Union in 2011, when the European Commission granted Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status to Topoloveni Magiun, a traditional Romanian plum jam, 100% natural. Topoloveni magiun was the first Romanian product to receive this certification and, for six years since 2011, the only one. Topoloveni plum magiun is a delicious jam made with just one ingredient: four different types of fresh plums. It has no added sugar, preservatives, additives, E’s, it’s gluten free and it’s 100% natural. The product is certified by the Romanian Food Research Institute as a functional food and it can be consumed from the age of 6 months and even by people with diabetes, on a doctor’s recommendation.

In addition to Topoloveni magiun, the manufacturer, Sonimpex Topoloveni, also produces in its plant many jams and other food products. Since the main goal of Sonimpex Topoloveni is to protect and maintain consumers’ health, all the items in its product range contain only natural ingredients. A very accurate description of their composition is: 0% chemicals and 100% fruits and vegetables. The manufacturer aimed and succeeded to innovate in jams’ field, a field that commonly uses added sugar. In order to protect the customers from excessive sugar consumption, a major nutritional issue worldwide, Topoloveni has created its own jam recipe, replacing the sugar syrup with natural apple juice. For this innovative procedure, Topoloveni holds today an International Patent.

Topoloveni brings to market food products for all types of consumers, no matter the age or the health status, and as a result the company has many customers, in Romania and all over the world. Some of them choose Topoloveni for household consumption, others – as a constant supplier. Due to the quality of its products, Sonimpex Topoloveni is today a Supplier of the Royal House of Romania. Besides the Protected Geographical Indication for plum magiun and the recognition as Supplier of the Royal House, Topoloveni also holds numerous distinctions for the taste and the quality of the products, granted by International Taste and Quality Institute, Monde Selection or Great Taste.

The company’s product range includes, first of all, many types of magiun, made from plums, grapes or apples. The jams are very well represented, by a large number of products: jams made from strawberries, cherries, apricots, quinces, raspberries or blueberries. But Topoloveni is also specialized in producing jams that go beyond the classic and stand out for their novelty or beneficial properties. Some examples are the jams made from chili peppers, rose petals, acacia flowers, goji or momordica charantia. The list would not be complete without some food specialities that define the Romanian culinary tradition, such as sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls), zacuscă (vegetable spread), bulion (tomatoes paste) or zarzavat (vegetables mix used for chorba/soup). Every year, Topoloveni launches new products, in order to meet the expectations, the tastes and the nutritional needs of more and more people.

First of all, Topoloveni values consumers’ health and considers that producing food requires a lot of knowledge and care. The company promotes the Romanian tradition, but also believes in innovation. Tradition define us, but innovation help us meet contemporary challenges, such as those related to health and nutrition. A Romanian company that has chosen to use only fruits and vegetables from Romanian growers, Topoloveni also believes in universality and the shared values. And healthy eating is one of the best examples for common values.
